I had a goal with this piece, make something that looks victorian, and I’d confidently say I achieved that 60-70%? I enjoyed making it, though, looking through existing victorian posters and picking out bits I liked was fun. My one regret is I wish I had more illustrations on it cause old posters were usually cluttered with imagery.

Sea n’ Bones – Culture/Explore

When in the McManus Museum I was interesting in the history of Whale Hunting. There were all these little trinkets and memorabilia from an activity that wasn’t seen as severe as it is nowadays. They also had the skeleton of a smaller whale which just made the exhibit more complete. I wanted to combine all these features into one image. I think if I went with it for one of my final four, I’d like to make it like a Victorian poster, with that old faded style with large intricate type.
